At Pawz-n-Play, you can rent time in our complete agility arena.  It's a terrific place to work out problems and hone those agility skills.

About the Site

The site is "self-service", so you can come almost any time.  Click here for Directions to the site.

The practice arena is a 95 x 90 fenced area (see the Arena Map).  It is uncovered, so come prepared for the weather.   The running surface is sand, which means that you don't have to worry about slippery mud - you can work in the (wonderful?) Seattle rain!

There is a large pasture available where you can exercise your dog.  You can also set up equipment in the pasture for short drills, but please try to avoid running ruts in the ground or making muddy spots.

Please pick up after your dog, even in the pasture.

Equipment

There is a full complement of rubber matted, competition-quality agility equipment.  Most is left in the arena and is ready for immediate use.  Additional items are stored in the barn and may be brought out as needed.  The chute, wood broad jumps, and unattached table legs should be returned to the barn after use.  The other equipment may be left out.

Setting Courses

There is usually a course set and we try to create new ones periodically.  You are very welcome to make changes, although we ask that you observe the following:

  • Please do not attempt to move contact obstacles by yourself.  A minimum of two people are needed to make these changes.
  • If you move tunnels, please try to carry them instead of dragging them.  The sand is very abrasive and dragging will wear holes in the material.
  • When you leave, please leave the equipment in a configuration that can be used by others (don't leave everything stacked in a corner).

Rules for the Course

  • Dogs should be under control at all times.
  • If running a full course, only one dog at a time is allowed. However, 2 or 3 dogs may run at once if there are well-separated areas for individual drills, all dogs are under tight control, and all handlers agree to this arrangement.
  • We understand that new dogs may require work on a leash.  Whenever possible, though, try to run without a leash or collar.  If a collar is required, it must be a flat buckle type with no hanging tabs or loops. ABSOLUTELY NO CHOKE, PINCH, OR SHOCK COLLARS (including "dummy" training collars) ARE ALLOWED ON THE COURSE.
  • Please do not place any food directly on the equipment. If food is required as a training aid, it should be placed on a plastic dish. Please be sure to remove all such dishes at the end of your run.
  • You may design and set your own course. However, do not try to move contact obstacles by yourself, although one person may adjust the A-frame height if necessary. If you make changes, please leave the course in a suitable format for the next person.
  • The jumps and hoop should be set at a height appropriate to your dog and his/her abilities. Jump bars are designed to break away easily. Do not alter the jumps or attempt to bypass this feature.
  • Please report any needed repairs to Mega-Dogs immediately. In addition to obvious breakage, include in your report any sharp edges, wearing or loss of non-slip coatings, missing cotter pins, and loose-fitting joints. Do not use any equipment that exhibits any of these problems. Faulty equipment should be removed from the course and placed in the barn.
  • Dogs exhibiting aggression towards people or other dogs will be asked to leave.
  • Please pick up after your dog, both inside and outside the arena. If your dog eliminates on the equipment, please clean it thoroughly.
  • Sorry, but due to insurance requirements, no children under the age of 10 are allowed in the arena. Children 10 to 14 years old must be accompanied by an adult.
  • HAVE FUN!

Scheduling

We don't require a reservation - in general, just come on over.  If someone else happens to be using the course, a friendly agreement to share can often be worked out.

It is open during daylight hours (but not before 6:30 a.m., please), 7 days a week.

Occasionally, we do have special parties or seminars scheduled, and the facilities are not available for general use during those times.  We will post a notice in the barn for at least a week prior to those events as well as online on the events calendar.  You can also email Heidi to check for potential closures.
